basically they all 5 are in same call in discord or other messenger chat group.
they divide by 2-2-1 in 3 different lobby.
meaning each lobby 2 person and last one 1 person.
Then they start matchmaking at the same time.
At the beginning they have communication to understand that they are in same side by clicking 2-2-1 or other method. if they not then they skip that matchmaking and try again.
Normally they choose odd time when less players online otherwise this method wont work.

I'm against hiding battle history. Because there are times when someone you just met in a match request for friendship. For me, I need to check which one among the nine players who sent the request, before deciding whether to accept.

Hello fella, this is related to Hide history thing, please help me i only see a glimpse of hide history button when i click the history then it suddenly dissappear. I dont have hide history button, bug :(

I thought this feature is not available in regular server yet?
I saw for 0.5 sec than its gone too.
