[Hero Gear Tips] Help regarding items

OK so on another Moba i knew the itembase from the top of my head.
However, with MLBB's easy way to just take pro's builds, I found there absolutely no need to learn the items at all. I could just push the button to buy the next available item in my previously established stolen build anyway.

You'd think, without item knowledge, you'll be severely limited to how far you can go right?
Well I was surprised to be hitting Mythic WITHOUT ANY ITEM KNOWLEDGE whatsoever.

Perhaps this could be identified as a design flaw in the game and maybe looking into getting players to actually know the itemsets?

I've come to the point where I want to actually improve more and know what to build in what situations. (e.g. heavy Magic Damage team, what helps survive on a MM. Facing a heavy tank team? which items penetrate those defenses best etc.) Instead of just relying on the previously established pro builds.

I came to the top 3 with Alice and sure enough my build was shown as "pro build" to take in the pro builds tab, but obviously i just blindly picked whatever pro build was available in the past.

Any tips in how to better myself in terms of item knowledge would be greatly appreciated

Just read the descriptions. There's not many items & the descriptions should be pretty self-evident.
Like fleeting Time helps you spam ultimate if you get kills/assissts & helpful on ulti dependent heroes like Harley; Vexanna etc.
Sea halberd & Necklance of durance is usefull against any healing effect like thamuz ulti; lifesteal items; Estes; Uranus, etc
glowing wand does % based DoT dmg. next skill adds 3 sec to burn time & does not stack.
Read item descriptions & you get almost all you need to know ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

PS: I look at pro builds, but don't blindly copy. I understand the intent behind the builds & then build items that suit me & my playstyle...

Yeah that makes sense. But still don't you agree the game itself should generate more incentive(s) to have their playerbase know the items? Currently its just too easy to start playing and succeeding without knowing them. Maybe just me being weird

They want it easy. Easy = more players come & stay = more $$.
This is a mobile game, it should be easy to get & easy to play. No one wants to study a game for an hour just to start playing.
Rather, after a certain time, ppl who want to will get curious & start understanding the items & building it themselves ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Right, take a time to read item description in Preparation > Equipment Book and try them in practice mode will make understand how the items work.
Understand item is important to counter enemies, if always use same build then hard to adjust it with enemies.

I really appreciate mlbb for making item build system very easy. In other moba game it takes months to understand about the build and item. But in mlbb, first you use pro builds. But after some time you will understand what to build in different scenario. Suppose enemy has heavy mage, for tank athena's shield way to go. Buf if enemy has esmarelda, you cant build athena because esma can steal shield from you. For physical adc rose gold meteor is good item. For mage there was a magic resistance item in past but now we dont have it. all you need to do is read each item's description. and also try to watch in game live stream. you will see the build you follow, the user will make different item in different game. You will understand why the user changing his/her build in each game.
