Thank you for your professionalism as well. You said hello, you thanked me for submitting the bug. You acknowledged my report, you offered an explanation, you also offered some suggestions on how to resolve it, and then you asked me for feedback to see if that resolved the issue. This is exactly how Customer Service is supposed to work. Thank you for your excellent performance and professionalism. Hopefully, others can learn from you in this regard.
Unfortunately, a reboot of my phone and a relaunch of the game did not resolve the issue. In fact, as the weekly skins available from the Magic Chess Pass have changed, I have confirmed that the problem persists with other weekly Magic Chess Pass skins as well. Here you can see that I selected Harper this time, and chose his weekly Magic Chess Pass "Harper O'Lantern" skin, but as soon as the matchmaking screen has passed and the loading screen comes up, you can see that it has resorted to the default "Commander Harper" skin instead. Then, when you have the selection screen, you can see that only Commander Harper is showing. When the game starts, it's the same Commander Harper.
So, it seems that all of the weekly Magic Chess Pass skins are not functioning properly. Hopefully, you can test and confirm this on your end with your development tools.
